Hello my lovelies!

Welcome back to Cappuccinos and Cashmere, your one stop source for fashion and lifestyle posts! Today I am talking about how I changed my skincare routine during the month of July.

I have relied on some of the same skincare products for years and I noticed that my skin was getting sick of the same “old” routine.  So, I decided to make some changes in my skincare routine.  For starters, I wore makeup maybe 10 times all month which is unusual for me.  The reason behind this is because I was always so envious of those girls who can pull off a fresh face with no makeup and the bare essentials.  I put myself to the challenge to give my skin a break from makeup and to just focus on hydrating and recovering my skin from inside out.

I drank the recommended amount of water every single day and that alone made a huge impact on my skin.  In the morning, I would wake up with plump skin and I would look very hydrated.  There is definitely a difference in my skin when I am hydrated vs dehydrated.  So I guess you could say that my first skincare change of the month was water.

Next, I focused on skincare from the outside.  I had read so many positive things about Ole Henriksen and his cruelty free skincare line.  In fact, one of my favorite bloggers Aimee Song of Song of Style swears by the brand so I had to take her word for it.  I went to Sephora at the end of June and got a sample of the Truth Serum.  I applied a few drops of the serum in the morning after my toner and after the third day I was in love.  The serum has a citrusy smell and really woke me up.  My skin LOVED the vitamin C and so I ended up buying a full bottle about a week later when I used up the sample (a little goes a long way so I see this bottle taking me through the fall.

The next step was for me to amp up my moisturizer game.  If you asked me in June if I am religious about moisturizer, I would have shrugged and said no.  Now, it’s something I look forward to day and night.  I am juggling between two moisturizers right now and cannot decide which one I like more.  During the summer of 2016 I discovered Sunday Riley (again at Sephora) and picked up their Tidal moisturizer.  It is a water based moisturizer which is good for oily skin like mine and my skin soaks it up within seconds.  I love how its not heavy at all and leaves my skin feeling fresh and clean.  Definitely a forever favorite.

My second moisturizer is a recent discovery and it is the Laura Mercier Mega Moisturizer.  This is definitely a heavier feeling moisturizer so be prepared for that.  When I feel like my skin needs some extra love I reach for this product.

As far as eye cream, I kept some things consistent.  I still use my Kiehl’s Eye Opening Serum.  Although I look at change as a good thing, also I believe “if it works don’t try to fix it.”

My new skincare routine helped my glow and I had less breakouts during the month which is always a great thing.  On the rare occasion that I had a breakout, Mario Badescu’s drying lotion and buffing lotion were there to save the day.  If done correctly and on time, the drying lotion is a true life saver. I simply would apply a small dot of the lotions to a blemish to reduce inflammation and shrink the pimple by morning.
